Early To Bed, Early To Rise

My morning starts early, I mean very early. I’m up by 4:15 a.m. every weekday. In order to get up early, I’m in bed no later than 9:00 p.m. Weekdays are chaotic because we spend so much time at work or traveling to and from work. Therefore, I do a lot of prepping to make it easier. If I don’t make time to do so I eat unhealthy, I sleep less, and I’m running late trying to do it last minute.

One of the most important meals I prep is breakfast. It gives me something to calm my growling stomach after a workout and fuels me for the upcoming day. So here is a list of some of my favorite breakfasts when I’m training for a race. Honestly, I eat this all the time because it’s so good:

French Toast Overnight Oats by Smart Little Cookie

Egg Muffin Cups by Together As Family

Coconut Kale Smoothie posted on Thechalkboardmag and taken from the book “Eat Fast, Run Slow.”
If there is one book I could recommend, this would be it! You can buy it on Amazon by clicking here

So what do you love to eat for breakfast after a good workout or run? I would love to hear your thoughts or suggestions!

Also, don’t forget to donate to St. Jude Children’s Hospital for my upcoming San Diego Rock N Roll Marathon June 3rd. You can get to my fundraiser page by clicking here. Not only will you get a tax write off next year, but you will be helping to find a cure for childhood cancer.

The Words That Changed Me

A little over a year ago I made a career change. With this change came a crummy commute, but my new job has a gym. I decided I would leave at 4:30 a.m every morning and miss traffic and get in some gym time. I had not seriously stepped foot into a gym since I was in the military some twenty years ago. I was pretty darn proud of myself. I was walking the treadmill or spending a little time on the elliptical. Then someone told me “What you’re doing is great, but you know you will never look like you did when you were in your 20’s. It’s just a part of the aging process.” What the! That’s as bad as my doctor who informed me I was middle aged. Ummm...no. I refuse to be.

Well, that fired me up. Anyone who knows me, knows I’m stubborn and don’t like to be told I can’t do something. My poor mother who had to put up with me through my teenage years can attest to this. This was a personal challenge. I was going to be healthy, and muscular, blonde, 5 foot 7....ok maybe I took that too far. Seriously, I’m realistic. I know I won’t look like I did in my 20’s, but I can make 40 look good.

So here I am a year later. I have a handful of 5K’s, a 10K, and as of last weekend my first Half Marathon. What’s next is my first Full Marathon June 3rd and I plan on raising $500 for St. Jude’s Children Hospital. I’m running to help find a cure for childhood cancer.

My friends, if you would like to help me meet my goal, please donate what you can or even better $26 for 26 miles! I will also continue to blog my journey to June 3rd’s Rock N Roll Marathon!Just click the link below to go to my fundraising page:
